With campuses on two continents - in Boston, Massachusetts; and Madrid, Spain - Suffolk is truly committed to being an international university. International students account for almost ten percent of the student population and represent over one hundred countries. This is a fact that makes us at Suffolk proud as we feel that not only does the university have much to offer to students from around the world, but also that our international students contribute to creating a vibrant global community of learners.
In 1991, Suffolk only enrolled 60 international students and was sending only a few of its students abroad. At that time, President David J. Sargent articulated his vision for Suffolk that included a diversified student body - one with an increased number from other states as well as from other countries. He also envisioned multiple exchange programs with universities around the world.
Since then the university has committed itself to fulfilling that vision. Today, Suffolk is home to nearly 1,000 international students from over a hundred countries and offers 50 study abroad programs. The university opened a campus in Madrid, Spain in 1995. In 2001, Suffolk established the Center for International Education (CIE) so that students would have an office dedicated to helping them during their years at Suffolk.
Suffolk continues to make efforts to further 'internationalize' the university. The success of the past three decades have reinforced our belief in the importance of being a global university.
