Directed by Danny Boyle and written by Simon Beaufoy, “Slumdog Millionaire” was adapted from the 2005 novel “Q&A” by Indian author Vikas Swarup. Set and filmed on location in India, the movie is the story of a young man from the slums of Mumbai who appears on the Indian version of the television game show “Who Wants to be a Millionaire.” When he exceeds people's expectations, he raises the suspicions of not only the popular program’s host but also law enforcement officials.
“Slumdog Millionaire” was first released in the U.S. in November 2008. It was nominated for 10 Academy Awards earlier this year, winning eight including Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.
