Suffolk University senior Nimish Sahani and his brother Akshay know that homework and studying are just a fraction of a college student’s never-ending laundry list. This fall, the entrepreneurial duo launched a startup to help alleviate some of those tasks for young professionals, servicing none other than laundry itself.

NimNimThe Sahani brothers came up with the idea for NimNim, an on-demand laundry, dry cleaning, tailoring, and shoe repair service that’s available through a mobile app.

“Our tagline is: ‘Convenience delivered on-demand,” Akshay said. “We want people to be able to spend less time taking care of tasks like laundry and more time working, studying, or spending time with friends and family.”

Customers First

NimNim prides itself in their customer service. Customers in Boston, East Cambridge, and East Boston can expect a 24-hour turnaround period with door-to-door pick-up and delivery. Payments are processed through Venmo or Square, and text messages keep you up-to-date on your orders.

“We’re a concierge for our customers,” Nimish Sahani said. “We build a relationship with each customer because we know we are dealing with their personal items, so we want to make sure they are taken care of the right way.” The company currently boasts a five-star rating on Yelp.

NimNim also supports local businesses. Rather than having big, industrial washers and dry cleaning machines, they partner with local small businesses as a way to give back to the community.

NimNim Gains Momentum

So far, NimNim has been generating quite a buzz. In November, Nimish and Akshay participated in the Northeastern University Entrepreneurship Expo, where Akshay is an alum. With roughly 45 ventures on display, they won the attention of BostInno, which featured NimNim as one of its six favorite startups.

The NimNim team has also been featured in the Boston Business Journal and Urban Daddy as an up-and-coming startup in the area.

With hundreds of downloads in two months, the brothers hope to expand their service to other parts of Greater Boston.

Suffolk Support

“We wouldn’t be where we are today without the help of Suffolk,” Nimish said. Suffolk faculty has been an integral part of their business development, helping them create a business plan and find team members. Faculty has also provided general advice and consulting services.

“Our whole push has been through Suffolk,” Nimish said, noting that 50% of their customers are Suffolk students. “The support from both the students and faculty has been great. Suffolk has been our biggest and best champion out there.”

Entrepreneurs at Heart

Nimish and his brother are no strangers to the business world. Akshay graduated from Northeastern University in 2011 with a double major in finance and entrepreneurship. Nimish is a part-time management major and entrepreneurship minor, set to graduate May 2016. He decided to go to school part-time so he would have time to start businesses.

Nimish was a senior in high school when he started his first business— selling cell phone cases at a kiosk in the mall. Since then, he’s launched and sold several other businesses.

Today, the brothers plan to keep working hard and providing top-notch services to their customers. “Money is secondary for us. I want to make Boston my foundation, my hub, my city,” Nimish said.
