Students traveled north this past weekend to visit the Spanish cities of Burgos & León. Both cities are historical powerhouses. Spanish national hero, El Cid Campeador (Lord Champion) is Burgos’ favorite son, and a massive statue of Rodrigo de Vivar (his real name) astride Babieca, his famous horse, welcomes all who enter town. In addition, both Burgos and León play significant roles in any pilgrim’s trek along the Camino de Santiago. It was the dazzling stained-glass windows in León’s Cathedral, though, which captivated students most of all. This Gothic monument to architecture defies logic as the seemingly endless windows remain standing amongst scarcely visible stone walls.
