The first thing I want to say about Suffolk is about the friendliness I’ve found here. It’s something that just can’t be ignored. Whether it is in the elevator or on the street, I meet people from all parts of Suffolk—students, professors, people I know and people I’ve never met—who make me feel like part of the community. I have felt welcome from day one.

Before I got here, I was expecting an environment where I would be surrounded by people who wanted to learn, and so far, that is what I have seen. The majority of my classes are quite interesting. As a philosophy major, I find that my philosophy classes pose the most interesting challenges: My Philosophy of Nature course has been the most exciting and unique. The course is about getting in touch with nature on natures terms, with a focus on the American Southwest and The Grand Canyon.

My classmates are very serious and committed to getting the most out of every lecture and discussion. More often than not, we spend time after class discussing the day’s topics. It seems that each of us has our own passion, whether it is within our major, or just something we love and care about.

In my spare time, I’m a DJ for Suffolk Free Radio. It’s an extremely relaxed environment and a great time to relax during the week. I am also a Resident Assistant for the 10 Somerset Dorm. I have had great experiences with the administration as well as my fellow RA’s.

My favorite things about Suffolk:

  • The ability for me to be as active as I want, but also as an individual, as I need to be. Not being locked into standard classes and clubs, but attending unique events; it is a great aspect of Suffolk!
  • Obviously, the location couldn’t be better—being in Boston, but also my individual space in state of the art Nathan R. Miller residence hall.
  • The limited size and casual atmosphere of the Philosophy Department is a great feature really fits my learning style.
