I like Suffolk’s location on Beacon Hill, so close to the best parts of Boston, including The Boston Common, Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market, Downtown Crossing, The Theatre District, and The North End. I expected to have a normal college experience surrounded by other college students all the time. What I found was that every time I walked out my front door I stepped off campus and into the “real world” right alongside business executives, lawyers, tourists, students, legislators, and people from all walks of life. And the best part is that there is always something to do.
I have many friends who take their work very seriously here, and are you’ll usually find us studying whenever we have free time. But just because we take our work seriously does not mean that we don’t still make time for some of the great social events that can really shape a student’s college career.
When I compare notes with my friends who attend other schools, it always seems that I have smaller classes than they do. I’ve been in mostly introductory courses so far, and most of my classes have a max of only 25 to 30 students. Some of the same courses at other schools are huge lectures, with two hundred students or more! My courses are interesting and stimulating both academically and socially. The academics are challenging, but they’re not being overwhelming, and I think that’s the best atmosphere for learning.
I took advantage of the opportunity to study abroad at the Suffolk University Madrid Campus, and it was one of the best things I‘ve ever done. The culture, diversity, and overall atmosphere contributed to a great experience that I’ll never forget.
The location, the feel and the size of Suffolk add up to just the right thing for me. Finding the right fit in your college search is the hardest but most important thing to do, but it has a huge impact on your college experience. I like knowing that Suffolk is the best place for me.
