I always wanted to go to college in Boston, but I didn’t want to be one of hundreds in a giant lecture hall. Suffolk University had a great location in the city with the small class sizes that I desired. Being on Beacon Hill, Suffolk is surrounded by Boston’s famous landmarks such as Downtown Crossing, Faneuil Hall, and the North End. I love being able to shop, have lunch with my friends, or just walk around in between classes. The location is great for working in the city. When I worked part-time, it was convenient for me to go back and forth from class and work. The Career Office at Suffolk has been a great benefit to me. I found my internship at PricewaterhouseCoopers through the Career Office’s listings of job opportunities. They helped me prepare for applying to internships by going over my resume and a mock interview to improve my interviewing skills.
The small class sizes at Suffolk allowed me to get to know my professors and classmates. I’ve made friends who are also accounting majors, but I’ve also gotten to know students in other disciplines. My professors have helped me learn more about the accounting profession by sharing their experiences in the accounting field and the career opportunities available in accounting. Professors are also willing to put in extra time to help you. I had a difficulty with my taxation course and so did other students, so my professor would have an additional study session outside of class to help us prepare for exams.
I’m involved with Beta Alpha Psi, the national honor society and professional accounting fraternity. As the treasurer, I’ve been able to improve my leadership skills. Being involved has allowed me to network with accounting professionals, which helps me with my goal of becoming a partner in a public accounting firm. Suffolk University has contributed greatly to my goal; through my internship, I will be working at PricewaterhouseCoopers next year.
