Hi, my name is Kristin, a Senior at Suffolk University majoring in Business Management. During my freshman and sophomore years I lived in two different residence halls on campus (150 Tremont and 10 Somerset) and for the past two years I have been a resident in the North End, a very popular spot for Suffolk students to live.
Coming from a very small town in Connecticut, I knew I wanted a change of pace and scenery when deciding where to go to school. I knew I didn’t want a “traditional” college campus with a fence around the perimeter and a quad in the middle. I came across Suffolk and immediately fell in love with everything it had to offer. I had only been to Boston twice prior to my tour of Suffolk but I knew it was where I was supposed to be and four years later, I couldn’t be happier with my decision.
Suffolk has a fantastic location in Beacon Hill and is just a few minutes from Faneuil Hall, Downtown Crossing, the North End and the Theatre District. Not to mention Suffolk is located between two T stations: Park Street and Government Center which means there is easy access to literally anywhere you want to go.
The class sizes at Suffolk are also relatively small, averaging at 22 students. The largest class I ever had was an Accounting class with 30 students and the smallest class I had was a dance class of 8. Coming from a high school where my graduating class was 65 kids, I knew I couldn’t go to a school where the professor wouldn’t know your name or where you are one student in a row of hundreds. In my junior year I was able to go back to my freshman English teacher to ask for help on a paper and she was more than willing to help me because she remembered me; that can be rare to find at other schools.
Looking back on the past 3 years at Suffolk I’ve been extremely fortunate to have had the chance to go to school in such an amazing city. Doing well in school is important but also taking advantage of everything the school and location has to offer is just as important. We only get to go to college once (in theory) so it’s important to make the most of it!
