Suffolk Student Ambassador Photo: BeckeeI chose Suffolk University because of its location. I knew from the moment I started looking at colleges I wanted to be in Boston, the best town for college students in the United States. Suffolk provided me the unique opportunity to be right in the middle of a city full of museums, shopping, and history, but also get the personal attention and intimate setting one would generally not expect from an urban university. As I spend more time at Suffolk, I am coming to realize that this personal attention is one of Suffolk’s biggest strength. Whether it be the small class sizes, dedicated professors, or opportunities for internships, it is clear the university is dedicated to my personal success and well-being.

The nicest aspect of small class sizes is the personal relationships you develop with professors. My advisor, who started as my World Literature professor, sends me personal emails when he thinks I might enjoy a visiting speaker. In one of my classes, my professor would always leave photocopies of the class reading on hold at the library. One night, I went to the library to get the reading for the next class, but the library staff was not sure where the reading was. I went home, e-mailed my professor, and within the hour my professor had not only responded to my e-mail, but she had also called the library to check for me. It is stories like these that let me know that my professors really want to see me do my personal best and enjoy every moment here at Suffolk University.

At Suffolk, I am involved in cheerleading. We cheer for both men’s and women’s basketball. Not only does cheerleading allow me to be a part of a group, it keeps me involved with a larger community. The friends I have made stretch from the girls on the squad, to the members of both basketball teams, to fans that come to the games. We also are working to become a competitive squad. In 2006, we competed for the first time, and we received first place in our division  It was a proud moment for us, and I cannot wait to watch our squad grow!

In the future, I plan to get certified to teach English as a second language. After college, I hope to spend a few years abroad teaching English, then head to graduate school to study English.
