A whole year goes by in “the blink of an eye.” I know so cliché, right? But that’s the only way to describe my first two years at Suffolk University. Now a Junior and a public relations major I have over 64 credits to my name. I am originally from Cranston, Rhode Island.

When I started looking at colleges, not too long ago, I was stressed and had no idea where I wanted to be. I had the feeling that I would be overwhelmed in a school with sixty or more students per class and this helped me narrow down my search a bit, realizing I wanted smaller classrooms, where it would be easy for a professor to get to know me. I soon found that Suffolk had no lecture halls and that the student to teacher ratio was 13:1. It was clear to me that Suffolk was the exact classroom setting that I wanted, and it was still considered a medium sized school with 5,000 undergraduates.

I went on a tour of Suffolk and found that this where I wanted to be. The Miller Hall dorm we saw was gorgeous, and the classrooms were new, small and comfortable. The library here at Suffolk was also one of the nicest libraries that I had seen with 4 floors, couches, and fire places to make it feel more comfortable.  Although there is no technical “campus” here at Suffolk, we use the city of Boston as our college town. The Suffolk buildings are all close to each other, which makes it easy to get from the dorm to class in less than ten minutes, or from the North End (Little Italy, where I now live as a Junior), in about 15.

My second semester of sophomore year I studied abroad on the Gold Coast, in Queensland, Australia, which has been 4 of the best months of my life.  I spent the semester taking 4 elective classes but I also got to sky dive, bungee jump, scuba dive, and snorkel the Great Barrier Reef, along with meeting people from all over the world.  I had other friends who went to London, Greece, Prague and Ireland as well.  Suffolk has an amazing study abroad program, including two other campuses in Madrid, Spain and Dakar, Senegal in west Africa.  Looking back at the college search process, and everything I have accomplished here at Suffolk University, I know I made the right choice in coming here.  If this might be the right school for you, try a campus tour or information session.  If you have any questions at all, feel free to email me at hebrennan@suffolk.edu
