Howdy Y’all! Andrew here--and welcome to my bio page! I am a sophomore here at Suffolk University! I am currently a Theatre major, and am thinking of double majoring in Theatre and Broadcast Journalism. I am originally from Houston, Texas, so the cold weather was definitely my biggest fear when I was making the move to New England; but I overcame that and now realize that snow is your friend
Many people wonder why this Texas cowboy decided to move up to Boston and become a northern Yankee. I sometimes wonder the same thing. It is cold here, people move at a fast pace, and there is no good Mexican food. But at the same time it is like living in another country. There are amazing restaurants like Legal Seafood, and neighborhoods like the North End and Back Bay that have so much to offer. There is never a dull moment in this city. When I came to visit Boston I immediately fell in love with the atmosphere and knew that this was where I wanted to go to college. It only became a matter of which school to attend. After a long and tedious process it came down to Suffolk University. I knew that the small class sizes and one on one that I would get with professors would be more than beneficial to my education.
Ever since I move to Boston I have truly felt at home. Of course there are days where I miss my friends and family, but I know that Boston is where I am meant to be. I have made a ton of friends since the big move and I know that there is always someone I can count on. Since I became a part of the Suffolk Community I have been a member of the Student Government Association, Program Council, and Rainbow Alliance. I have also been in productions that the university itself has put on. There is a large community here at Suffolk, and no matter where I am in Boston I am guaranteed to see someone that I know.
People always talk about how you should study abroad your junior year, and it is something that I am strongly considering. To go to London, Sydney, Tel Aviv, Paris, or Madrid for a semester would be an amazing experience. I am also thinking about my summer vacations and what I want I want to gain from them. I chose to stay in Boston this past summer and take classes, but next summer I would love to get an internship at a broadcasting company and really start to learn the ins and outs of broadcast Journalism. I hope to go into the broadcast media field when I graduate in the summer of 2012.
No matter what college you attend at the end of the day; just know that it is what you put into the experience that will make it the college experience you want. Of course I would love for you to choose Suffolk University, but remember that it is your decision on where you want to attend college for the next four years. My word of advice is to push yourself out of your comfort zone. It is okay to move cross country and experience something totally different. Always remember that life is what you make of it, so don’t wait for something to happen...go make it happen.
