Dear members of the Guidance Community:
Welcome to the Suffolk University website. I’m proud to say there’s never been a better time to be a student at Suffolk! Our applicants continue to demonstrate that high school seniors around the nation, and the world, recognize this fact. Applications for admission to the University have increased by 60% during the last 5 years (we received about 6,950 this year), and we will be welcoming a larger than expected class of 1050 new freshmen fall (100 more than our goal).
This past year, applicants came from 43 states, the District of Columbia and 94 countries. Students applied from 1,388 high schools from around the world. Students of color comprise 21% of the admitted pool. Suffolk is becoming more popular and selective as its national reputation grows. This year Suffolk was named a Princeton Review Best 361 University. Our campuses in Madrid (Spain) and Dakar (Africa) continue to provide wonderful, affordable International options for our current students.
Suffolk University’s state-of-the-art Mildred F. Sawyer Library, currently under construction on three floors of 73 Tremont Street, will provide students with a 42,000 square foot full service library, including a wireless computer environment, 42 study carrels, 108 open study seats, 23 study rooms, 24 computer stations, copy center, and multi-purpose group study room and bibliographic lab, both with distance learning and presentation AV technology. This past year we added an Honors Program to better serve an ever-growing number of extremely talented students. The Honors Program takes the University an important step further by providing its most highly qualified and promising students an unparalleled opportunity for growth and achievement. Honors scholars will enhance their academic experience with a distinctive and challenging curriculum that instills interactive and collaborative learning with a world-class faculty within a highly respected University.
We understand fully the impact that you have on the future lives of the students with whom you work. Helping students and families navigate the college admissions process continues to minimize the pressure family’s feel during this time. The guidance that you provide students and families continues to be critical in the lives of the students you work with while they consider various career options. We are truly grateful for the time you spend helping prepare these students at this important time in their life.
We have provided some information and links here that should be helpful in your work with students. In addition, I encourage you to contact our office if you gave concerns regarding an applicant. Please feel free to contact me directly at JHamel@Suffolk.edu or by calling 617-573-8460.
