I want to welcome you to the Suffolk University community! I know that sending your child to college is one of the largest emotional and financial commitments that a parent will make. We hope you will continue to support and encourage your child during the extensive, and sometimes difficult, college search and admission process.
We have created this section of our site to help you help your child. The more pertinent information you have about Suffolk University and the college admission process, the better the advice you will be able to pass on to your son or daughter.
Students and faculty work together in smaller classes on our Beacon Hill campus, in the heart of historic Boston. They also come together at satellite campuses elsewhere in Massachusetts and in China, Europe and Africa. Our programs in Europe (Madrid) and Africa (Dakar), along with our many study abroad options, demonstrate our commitment to helping introduce our students to a broader world, to help them learn how to understand and deal with the complexities of cultural differences, and to see an ever changing world and the challenge it presents for us all.
We hope that you find each of the sections helpful to you. Visiting every section or the site may not be feasible, however, we have organized a few links to save you time. We hope they will be most useful to you over the next few months.
As you prepare to send your child off to college, I would like to recommend the book Letting Go: A Parents’ Guide to Understanding the College Years by Coburn, Treeger and Madge (Harper Collins, 2003). I think you will find that your concerns and experiences are shared by many other parents.
Parenting remains the most challenging “job” any of us will have. We are here to help with questions or concerns as you try to understand the “best fit” for your son or daughter. Whether this will be your first trip to Boston or your thousandth, I am confident that you will be impressed with the Suffolk community. I look forward to working with you to help you as this important time.
Sincerely,
John Hamel
Director of Undergraduate Admission
