Cesar Archilla JD '98 may have an ace up his sleeve in the Eighth Essex District state representative race—fellow Suffolk graduate Rep. Michael Costello JD '96. Costello, D-Marblehead, is "of counsel" at Andrews & Updegraph, where both of them work, meaning he is not active in the daily business of the firm and thus could advise Archilla during the election.

Archilla joins another Democrat and two Republicans in the quest to replace Doug Petersen, D-Swapscott, who earlier this year accepted an appointment to become commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources. If Archilla wins the Februry 5, 2008, primary election, he will face the GOP primary winner on March 4, 2008. Swampscott Reporter, December 5, 2007.
