Men’s Basketball Loses to Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. - A dozen different Seahawks scored led by Windell Hinkson’s (Groton, Conn.) 22 points as Salve Regina University men’s basketball defeated Suffolk University, 81-48, in non-league action in Newport.

Hinkson drained six 3-pointers, five came in the first half, as Salve Regina (2-3) built a 13-point advantage. His fourth 3-pointer with 1:40 left in the first half pushed the Seahawk lead to double digits (33-21) and Salve Regina maintained that margin the rest of the game.

Ram senior forward Brian Small (Stoughton, Mass.) produced his third double-double in as many games for Suffolk (0-3). Small finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Despite allowing Suffolk 19 offensive boards, Salve Regina’s defense kept an opponent under 60 points for the first time this season - holding the Rams 14 points below their average.

Salve Regina enjoyed a 35-19 advantage in offensive production from the bench, including 15 points on the fast break.

Seahawk senior guard Justin Woodworth (Ipswich, Mass.), averaging 29.0 points per game entering the contest, was held scoreless in the first half but still managed to pour in a dozen points. Sophomore forward Dan Royce (Mahwah, N.J.) came off the bench to provide 10 points. Hinkson and Royce shared team-high rebounding honors with six apiece.
