The Marketing department is an exciting place; we have much to offer our students in the BSBA program. To help you achieve your career goals we have accomplished faculty teaching required courses and electives. We continuously review our courses to help students develop the skills needed for success in business – problem solving skills, presentation skills, writing skills, and critical thinking ability. In our coursework, there are many opportunities to apply the skills you learn.

For example, in MKT 318 Marketing Tools and Analysis, you learn problem solving approaches for tackling business issues. In MKT 319 Marketing Research, you apply those problem solving approaches in a team project to conduct research for a business to address a marketing problem or opportunity. As well as the required courses for the major, we offer elective courses in areas such as Sports Marketing, New Product Development, Supply Chain Management, Professional Selling, Integrated Marketing Communications, and more.

One elective course that’s particularly valuable is MKT 520 Marketing Internship. In this course, a student works at a company on a marketing related project to earn course credit. Here’s how it works: from our list of qualified leads (or your own network), you make contacts to positions in which you’re interested. When you’ve secured a position, you work with both your company sponsor and our Internship Program Director, Professor Jerry Mee. This course typically requires 100 hours of work during the semester at the company plus completion of corresponding academic work. Students love the internship experience! Internships sometimes lead to a fulltime job. Marketing students at the Sawyer Business School have interned at companies including Arnold Worldwide, Hill-Holiday, the Boston Bruins, Harpoon Brewery, Omni Parker House Hotel, and more. Contact Professor Mee for more details.

Whether it’s electives or required courses, the faculty are here to help advise you on which course to take in the proper sequence. Each Marketing major is assigned to a fulltime faculty member for advising. We hold advising information sessions twice per year (Fall and Spring) prior to registration. Students meet with their advisor in person every semester to make sure they stay on track toward graduation.

Again, the Marketing department is an exciting place; please come by our office (Sawyer 833) to learn more!
