• Building your ePortfolio

Collect Materials

The first step in creating your ePortfolio is to collect and save all of your academic, professional and personal information to be added to your ePortfolio. Materials are continuously gathered throughout your 4-year period at Suffolk University. Refer to the Instructional ePortfolio for further details.

Helpful Tips -

  • Academic: Showcase your best work and track your progress throughout your college career through your in-class experiences via evaluations, written assignments, journals, presentations, projects, group-work, internships and more...
  • Co-Curricular: Get involved in out-of-class experiences such as athletics, community service, cooperative education, clubs and organizations, travel and more...
  • Multimedia: Capture the moment with video clips of presentations, audio biographies or even photos!

Develop a Plan

Your ePortfolio is a work in progress. There are no specific rules on how you design your ePortfolio, though there are certain items we require you to include.See the Instructional ePortfolio for details. However it is necessary for you to understand the purpose of creating an ePortfolio. Whether it is to showcase your academic achievements during your freshman year or getting a job in your senior year, there are many purposes for your ePortfolio.

Develop an overall plan that presents your material in such a way that it serves your purpose. Of course your purpose may change between your freshmen and senior year’s at Suffolk University, and you can always update and adjust your ePortfolio as needed. Please review the Business School’s ePortfolio policies before building your ePortfolio.

Helpful Tips -

  • What evidence do you have to prove your value to an organization? Think about how you will demonstrate your skills / knowledge and what information is missing that you need to acquire?
  • Think about your audience. Who are your critics? How will your friends view your portfolio compared to your potential employer?
  • What goal are you trying to achieve and who will help you evaluate your e-portfolio in order for you to distinguish yourself from your peers.

Design and Build

Once you have your materials and a plan, you are ready to design and build your ePortfolio. The Sawyer Business School uses a web based learning system to host all ePortfolios. As part of your curriculum, you will be required to use an ePortfolio template that has already been created by the Undergraduate Program Office. You may use this template as your initial ePortfolio and then add additional content as you get familiar with the process. For more information refer to the Tutorials that show you step-by-step instructions on creating your ePortfolio.

Helpful Tips -

  • Think simple, clean and effective. Focus on your message. Creativity and uniqueness will follow as you move forward.
