The Strategy and International Business Department serves the Mission of the Sawyer Business School by offering courses and engaging in activities broadly within the fields of strategic management and international business. Both of these fields link between a company and its environment. Both fields provide tools to help analyze a company’s present and future position in the global marketplace.
The distinction between a domestic and an international environment is becoming increasingly blurred. Managers need to build expertise in taking a comprehensive view of their environment as a global one. Complexities are introduced into it due to cultural and regulatory variations, and managers take decisions and actions that would competitively position the organization and generate desired long-term performance.
The courses we offer at the undergraduate and graduate levels help students build relevant skills and emerge as leaders in their organizations. More specifically, we offer a major in Global Business for undergraduates and contribute to a major in Management. We offer specializations in strategic management and international business at the graduate level.
Our distinguished faculty engages in research and consulting in a wide range of areas that includes: foreign direct investment, industry clusters and networks, business & public policy, political risks; privatization; management of change, innovation, and R&D; knowledge management; new product development; comparative management; knowledge transfers, strategic alliances, project-based enterprises, turnarounds and organizational restructuring; career strategies; social networks and cross cultural negotiations; pedagogy; and ethics. We strive to bring our expertise into the classroom to enhance the learning environment.
