According to Fortune Small Business Magazine (February 2007, www.fsb.com), 66% of individuals polled want to be their own boss and that entrepreneurship has become a national obsession. FSB indicates that the SBA projected the largest business birthrate of nearly 672,000 companies, with employees, being created in 2005. The article further states that “if the nation’s love affair with entrepreneurship continues, then we are in for a bright future...entrepreneurs are more likely to get involved in their communities through service on elected and appointed boards and other types of volunteer work...they also lead the nation in charitable donations...”
At the Sawyer Business School, a nationally ranked Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Program, our coordinated curriculum was developed to focus on the entrepreneur and best matching their knowledge, skills and abilities to prospective opportunities that allow our students to not only launch a successful venture, but to make a difference. Our balanced blend of academic and professional faculty, research and experience, and student advising give our students the necessary theoretical and practical skills they need to identify successful opportunities, validate and defend their business plan, and launch their venture.
In addition, our flexible BSBA degree requirements and electives, allow our entrepreneurs to focus on entrepreneurship as a major, with a compliment of minors in other functional areas such as management, accounting, finance, marketing, and information systems and operations management. Students can customize their program depending on their individual interests. In addition, our Center for Entrepreneurial Studies helps round out our students’ program with additional research, experiential, and practical resources.
