• Transfer Credits

Transfer Policy

In general, transfer credit may be awarded to students who have:

  • attended a regionally accredited institution of collegiate rank;
  • taken courses equivalent in content to those offered at Suffolk University; and,
  • taken courses for which a satisfactory grade has been obtained.

The Sawyer Business School accepts direct transfer credit for freshman or sophomore courses taken at accredited two-year and four-year colleges that correspond directly to freshman or sophomore courses offered at Suffolk University.  Thus, students wishing to transfer to Suffolk University may receive credit for a number of core courses (accounting, computer literacy, management, economics, legal studies, English, English literature, business, communication, and ethics or cultural diversity).

Students may also receive direct transfer credit for liberal arts and humanities courses.  Courses taken at a two-year or four-year college that are not required at Suffolk University until the junior/senior year may qualify for validation credit.

For information on your particular situation prior to admission to the University, please contact the Undergraduate Admission Office at 617.573.8460.

Internal Transfer

Students who are considering a transfer should make an appointment with an advisor in the Sawyer Business School Dean’s Office, Sawyer 8th Floor.  Students receive an official Program of Study form outlining degree requirements for the BSBA or the General Business Studies Minor, and are assigned a faculty advisor in the Sawyer Business School.

Validation Policy

Selected courses taken elsewhere at the freshman or sophomore level, but offered by Suffolk University at the junior or senior levels, require validation in order to be eligible for transfer of credit. In order to validate a course taken at another institution, students must have earned a grade of C or better in the course. Validation is the completion, with a grade of C or higher, of an advanced course in the subject field at Suffolk University for which the transfer course is a foundation.

Upon completion of the advanced course, a student must complete a Validation of Transfer Credit Form in the Registrar’s Office.

Courses which may be validated are listed on student’s Suffolk University transcript and credit evaluation.  If a student has taken a junior/senior level course that is not required at Suffolk University, it cannot be validated. Please refer to the Academic Catalog for a complete list of courses that may be used for validation.
