Welcome to the Institute for Public Service at Suffolk University in Boston! The Institute for Public Service (formerly the Department of Public Management) offers a variety of educational opportunities for full-time and part-time students as well as mid career professionals set in the dynamic learning environment of the historic Beacon Hill in Boston. In addition, our specialized and flexible programs attract a very diverse population of students for an inimitable learning experience.
Housed in the Sawyer Business School, the Master of Public Administration (MPA) provides its students with a rigorous curriculum to cultivate leaders in public service. Our program provides an opportunity to personalize your educational experience. Students who have identified a career interest may tailor their electives to that interest in the form of a "career track."
Some suggested career tracks with a preapproved curriculum include: state & local government, nonprofit management, health administration, and human resources. However, students are not limited to these tracks. With the help of their faculty advisor, students may pursue other career tracks that our course offerings may support.
For undergrads, Suffolk University now offers a minor in Public Service for those students considering a career or an advanced education in government, non profit or other positions in public service.
The Moakley Center for Public Management, the clinical partner to the Institute for Public Service, offers a range of certificate programs for professionals looking to advance their careers. Credits earned during these programs can be used toward a Suffolk graduate degree (including MPA), should the certificate candidate decide to continue.
All of our programs are taught in an intimate learning environment (maximum 35 student class size) by academically qualified faculty members (PhD) and experienced practitioners in their field. If you are looking for a practical education based on ethical service to the public, we invite you to learn more about what Suffolk’s Institute for Public Service has to offer! Someone is always available to speak with you, answer questions and help in any way during your educational journey. We look forward to speaking with you!
Best,
Richard Beinecke DPA, ACSW
