Looking for Business Opportunities?
Africa is the place to be. Whether you want to launch your own business or invest in someone else’s, Africa is full of opportunities.
Last week, business leaders, students, alumni, and faculty came together to talk about Africa's future at the African Business Conference. The student-run event featured experts on innovation, entrepreneurship, investment, and career outlook in Africa.
Suffolk alumnus Issam Chleuh was among the guest speakers. Chleuh is the CEO of Africa Impact Group and was recently voted by Forbes Magazine one of the top-30 entrepreneurs in Africa.
Senior Yao Armel Awanyo played a big role in organizing the event. “I really wanted to educate the Suffolk University community about the incredible opportunities in Africa,” he said. Awanyo is from West Africa and is president of Suffolk’s Action Africa Alliance.
“I also wanted to give students a chance to network and exchange ideas with professionals who are doing business in Africa and abroad,” Awanyo added.
If you missed the event, here are two of the most interesting things Awanyo learned:
- Africa is the youngest continent on Earth—40 percent of its population is younger than 18 years old.
- Africa is the fastest-growing mobile phone market in the world—they've experienced a 20 percent annual increase in subscribers since 2005
Awanyo hopes that the 2014 African Business Conference is the first of many in the upcoming years. “After seeing the excitement of everyone who came out, I’m 100 percent convinced that Suffolk students will continue building the legacy of this event.”
