Master of Public Administration Program

Mission for Our Healthcare Administration Programs

Building on the missions of Suffolk University and the Sawyer Business School for delivering excellence in education, scholarship and research, the Healthcare Administration Programs – MHA, MBA/Health and MPA Healthcare Focus of Study – provide a powerful, innovative and enduring learning experience for students aspiring to lead and manage healthcare organizations of compassion, quality, and value in the 21st century.

Objectives for Our Healthcare Administration Programs

The Healthcare Administration Programs are designed to nurture each student’s potential as a healthcare leader and/or manager by engaging her or him in the key issues, challenges, opportunities and requirements for success in healthcare. Through cutting-edge academic and hands-on learning, students develop the analytic and strategic skills needed to transform organizations, build relationships, and strengthen organizational performance.

The Healthcare Administration Programs curriculum is designed to meet the unique needs of students who:

  • Work in healthcare and seek to strengthen their knowledge and skills and advance their careers.
  • Have little or no training or experience in healthcare administration and seek education and opportunities that will enable them to enter and succeed in the healthcare field.

Vision for Our Healthcare Administration Programs

Suffolk University will have the pre-eminent graduate programs in healthcare administration in the Northeastern United States, serving a diverse range of students from our region and around the world who are committed to their professional development and to being change agents to improve the healthcare delivery system and the health of the population. Our Healthcare Administration Programs will take graduate education to new levels of performance and creativity by providing inspiring and innovative learning experiences in classrooms and in healthcare organizations.

Vision for our Master of Healthcare Administration Program

The MHA Program educates and inspires current and future healthcare leaders and managers, preparing them to skillfully and ethically lead healthcare organizations toward superior performance that yields better patient care, improved population health and lower costs.

Values for Our Healthcare Administration Programs

Students First: Our students are our top priority; they are the principal reason for our existence as an academic program and we strive to do everything possible to support their intellectual and professional development and enable them to realize their dreams.

Scholarship: As an academic community, we are committed to continually exploring the healthcare field and communicating our findings to our students in courses and to the larger healthcare community through publications and presentations.

Service: Our faculty members serve in the healthcare community through participation in professional organizations, including but not limited to the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, the Healthcare Financial Management Association, and the Academy of Management.

Involvement: We believe that our students should further their development and expand their networks through involvement in healthcare professional organizations, including but not limited to the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.

Excellence: We strive to deliver a superior educational experience, helping our students to develop the knowledge and insight they need to be successful healthcare professionals and agents of change.

Integrity: We seek to adhere to the highest standards of professionalism, ethics and personal responsibility, and we encourage and guide our students to do the same.

Collaboration: Faculty members and students are co-owners and co-creators of our overall learning experience and every course; therefore, everyone is expected to invest in each other’s learning and success.

Innovation and Relevance: We seek to stay current on the healthcare field and the larger environment in which it exists, so we can share the latest information and insight with our students.

Critical and Creative Thinking: We strive to provoke new ideas and ways of thinking, we support inquiry and different points of view, and we honor each other in real learning. We seek true understanding, not just getting the “right” answers.

Our Healthcare Administration Programs are linked through shared curricula and activities for students interested in healthcare.
