S.O.U.L.S. Community Service Center Scholarships

Suffolk University is committed to encouraging and rewarding community service. The S.O.U.L.S. Community Service Center scholarship program is evidence of that commitment. Each year, students are selected for this program and are required to work 300 hours to support University sponsored service programs. Recipients are selected by a committee on the basis of community service involvement and merit.

Only rising full-time sophomores, juniors, and seniors, who have been enrolled at Suffolk University Boston full-time at least one year prior to applying, are eligible. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8. The award amount is $5,000 per academic year; $3,000 is posted as a grant to the student's tuition account and $2,000 is awarded as employment, which is paid on a bi-weekly basis for hours worked. The selection process takes place in the spring.

Service Learning Faculty Assistants (SLFA)

The SLFA program provides support to faculty incorporating service learning components in their courses. The program benefits both faculty and students by making service learning accessible to even the busiest faculty member, and by providing leadership and educational opportunities for Suffolk students.

Service Learning Faculty Assistants work with their assigned faculty members by establishing service-learning projects, matching students with those projects, monitoring student service hours and activities, co-facilitating reflection discussions and exercises, and conducting evaluations of the service-learning students.

Interested in applying for an SLFA for your next service-learning course? Any faculty member teaching a service-learning course may request a Faculty Assistant. S.O.U.L.S. assigns Faculty Assistants to as many faculty members as possible. Faculty who are interested in having an SLFA should contact souls@suffolk.edu.
