Who’s Who Selection Committee


Preamble

The purpose of this committee is to ensure fair, unbiased, and objective nomination for Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.

Article I

In order to be eligible for consideration a student must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5. Candidates must also be in good disciplinary standing, as determined by the Dean of Students. Students may only be considered in their senior year.

Article II

A student, upon being eligible, will be judged on a basis of scholastic ability (sec. I), leadership and participation in co-curricular activities (sec. II), and involvement in community services (sec. III).

Section I

A student will receive certain points according to his/her cumulative grade point average and participation in scholastic advancement.

  • 2.5 – 2.99 ...... 1 point
  • 3.0 – 3.49 ...... 2 points
  • 3.5 – 3.79 ...... 3 points
  • 3.8 – 4.00 ...... 4 points

Participation in Suffolk University sponsored study abroad program: For each semester: 1 point

Successful participation in a study abroad program sponsored by the University while a student: For each year: 1 point

Active membership in the university after transferring in: For each year: 1 point (Maximum 2)

Section II

A student will receive certain points according to his/her leadership and participation in extra-curricular activities. A maximum of 8 points is allowed in this section.

Active membership in any organization recognized by Suffolk University and the Director of Student Activities and Service Learning. For each year: 1 point

Active and continuous service on any university committee (i.e. AHANA student Support Communications Committee, Archer Fellowship or Griffin Honor Society Oversight Committees, etc.). For each year: 1 point

Active contribution to any Suffolk University publication. For each year: 1 point

Elected officer (also editor, manager, or equivalent) of any Suffolk University Club or Organization. For each year: 1 point.

Participation in varsity athletics. For each year: 1 point

Captain of any varsity athletic team. For each year: 1 point

Participation in each intramural sport. For each year: 1 point

Part time students whom are employed outside the institution. For each job: 1 point (maximum 4 points)

Section III

A student will receive certain points according to his/her leadership and membership in service to the University and community organizations. A maximum of 8 points is allowed in this section.

Service as an Orientation Leader conducting the orientation program. For each year: 1 point

Leadership in the Archer or Griffin Fellowship. For each year: 1 point

Active and continuous membership or service in a community based organization or volunteer service recognized by the SOULS Community Service Center. For each year: 1 point: (Maximum 4 points)

Service in a stipend campus leadership/scholarship position (i.e. Resident Assistant, Trustee Ambassador, SOULS Scholar, Peer Mentor, HUB Manager, Sawyer Ambassador, SU 101 TA). For each year: 1 point.

Article III

Any student receiving a total of ten points or higher will be eligible for consideration of membership. In addition, no more than eight points will be accepted in any one category or section. Other criterion may be accepted, such as notable contribution to the Suffolk University Community.

Article IV

Final judgment will be determined at a meeting of the Suffolk University Who’s Who Committee. This committee will include representatives from the student body, faculty, administration, the Dean of Students Office and the Director of Student Activities and Service Learning.
