If you read nothing else...
(although you should read everything!)
1. Room Selection is open to only those current freshmen resident students who are eligible.
2. In order to participate (to be eligible) in Room Selection, all freshmen students must pay the initial $500 deposit between March 18th and April 3rd. There is no exception to the April 3rd deadline
3. You may submit your deposit in any of the following ways:
a. Drop it off at the RLSP Office at 150 Tremont. The office is open from 9am – 6pm, Monday – Thursday and from 9am – 5pm on Friday. b. Mail it to the RLSP Office: Residence Life and Summer Programs, 150 Tremont St., Boston, MA 02111. The deposit needs to ARRIVE at the office by 5pm on Thursday, April 3, 2008. c. Call in a credit card to the RLSP Office at 617-305-2500. ALL deposits must include the Student’s name and SU id number.
4. In order to confirm your room, you must pay a final deposit of $500 between APRIL 22nd - JUNE 2nd. There will be no exceptions to the June 2nd deadline. At least $700 of your total deposits will be credited to your Fall 2008 tuition bill. Each resident student needs to maintain a $300 damage deposit. If necessary, your damage account will be brought up to $300 and any remaining money from your $1,000 room deposit will appear as a credit on your fall invoice. This deposit may be dropped off, mailed in or called in, as directed above in number 3. Your deposit must arrive at the office by the June 2nd deadline.
5. Deposits/refunds
a. The initial deposit of $500 will be refunded only if a student withdraws from the University prior to
June 2, 2008. If a student changes his/her plans prior to June 2nd and elects to NOT live on-campus, the
initial $500 deposit will be applied to the fall 2008 tuition invoice, provided written notification is given
to the Residence Life & Summer Programs Office by June 2nd. b. If a student does not pay the final deposit by June 2nd, the initial $500 deposit will be applied to the fall 2008
tuition invoice. c. The full $1,000 deposit will be forfeited if a student elects not to live on-campus after June 2, 2008.
6. If you are currently on or are placed on housing jeopardy as the result of disciplinary action, you may not be eligible for room selection. If you are not eligible to select a room through the selection process, you may be assigned to a room if you pay your deposit during the deposit period.
7. You will be signing a full academic year license agreement. The only reason that a student can be released
from the agreement outright is to participate in Suffolk’s Study Abroad program. All other students must petition to be released from the agreement. The Food and Housing Board reviews all petitions. Releases are rarely granted and only in extraordinary circumstances. For a full listing of residence life policies, please go to
www.suffolk.edu/reslife and click on the ‘Handbook” section. This listing is the current policies (listed in The Guide to Residence Life). We do not expect any major policy changes, but the updated handbook should be posted on-line by mid-summer.
8. If you wish to live in a suite, apartment, cluster or quad in any building with a group of your friends, fill out only one group application and submit it by the APRIL 4th deadline. Only eligible students (those with a lottery number) may be listed on the roster. Many suites at 150 Tremont and most apartments at 10 West will be open for either group selection or open selection. A limited number of clusters at Miller hall will be available for group selection. More details are located in group selection section.
9. If you submit a group application that is not selected, everyone on the application should go to Open Room Selection in order to select a room.
10. Group selection and open room selection will both take place on Wednesday, April 16th.
Exact time and location will be posted when lottery numbers are posted.
11. If you cannot attend Group Selection OR Open Room Selection, you must fill out the proxy form at the back of this packet and a) give it to your proxy to bring with him/her on the night of selection OR b) submit the form to the Residence Life & Summer Programs Office at 150 Tremont Street by 12noon on April 16, 2008.
12. The room choice you make through the Room Selection Process is final. There will be no room changes once the room selection process is finished. Make you roommate and room selections carefully. There can be no exceptions to this policy. Room changes may be made two weeks after the start of the fall semester. The Director of Residence Life & Summer Programs or her designee reserves the right to make room changes for the purposes of consolidation at any time.
13. If you miss the deposit deadline or if you have a friend who is not eligible for housing with whom you hope to live next year, the 2008-2009 Waiting List will begin at 9am on Wednesday, April 23rd at 150 Tremont street only. A $300 deposit is required. Typically, the waitlist is not activated until late August at the earliest.
14. Single room: There are a limited number of single rooms on-campus. If you wish to live in a single room, but are unable to secure a single during the room selection process, you may place your name on the Singles waitlist at room selection on April 16th. You MUST
select a room in order to place your name on this list. Individuals will be called based on lottery number. It is likely that we would not get to this list prior to mid-summer, if at all. There is no other waitlist for room or building changes.
15. The University reserves the right to reassign a residence space if a resident student is not registered for classes and does not have financial clearance from the Office of the Bursar by the tuition payment due dates for each semester: fall semester August 1, 2008 and spring semester December 15, 2008. In addition to the loss of residence hall space, a student who does not have financial clearance will also lose class registration for the semester.
16. If you have questions about the process, please read this packet thoroughly. If you still have questions, stop into an information session or stop by any Residence Life & Summer Programs Office.
