Group Selection
Wednesday, April 16, 2008
Students may apply for an apartment, a suite, cluster or a quad as a complete group. Suites (at 150 Tremont) accommodate 4, 5, 6, 8 or 9 students in double and single rooms with a shared common space and bathroom. Many of the suites at 150 Tremont will be available at group and/or open selection. Clusters (at Miller Hall) accommodate 4 students in two double rooms and 3 students in a double room and a single room. All clusters have a shared bathroom. A quad accommodates 4 students. At Miller Hall, all quads have a bathroom within the room. At 150 Tremont, all quads are on the corridor. Apartments at 10 West Street accommodate 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 students. All suites, apartments and clusters are single sex.
1. Apartment, suite and cluster/quad policies
A. Students are responsible for cleaning and maintaining apartments/suites/clusters/quads according to the health and safety standards prescribed by the University. This includes providing cleaning supplies and toilet paper.
B. Housekeeping staff will not provide regular service to occupied suites/clusters/quads.
C. Residence Life staff will inspect all rooms regularly. Staff will leave written notice, informing residents that the site was inspected and the results of the inspection.
D. The Residence Life staff reserves the right to enter any room for 1) health, safety and inventory inspections; and 2) cause (emergencies, upholding community standards, etc.) as outlined in The Guide To Residence Life.
2. Group application instructions
A. The application at the back of this packet must be thoroughly completed.
B. Each group should submit only one application.
C. Each person can be listed on only one application. If someone is listed on more than one application, all applications will be disqualified.
D. Everyone listed on an application must be eligible to participate in room selection (each student must have a lottery number).
E. If a student has an extensive damage record, or is responsible for extensive damage through the end of the academic year, he/she may lose on-campus housing privileges.
F. If someone listed on the application is not eligible, the application will be disqualified. However, the group can submit another application – for a different size space by the deadline (see below).
G. Each eligible person will have his/her lottery number listed. The “best” (lowest) total would select first. If there are multiple applications with the same total ‘lottery points’, the applications will be randomly pulled out of an envelope to determine selection order.
H. When you arrive at Open Room Selection, please bring your Suffolk ID, the signed signature page of your license agreement, a pen and your patience! You will need to sign the License Agreement 2008-2009 at room selection. It is important to note that the license agreement is binding and obligates you to university housing for a full academic year unless you are taking part in a study abroad program. If you do not take residency at the start of the fall 2008 semester, your room deposits will be forfeited.
I. Selection will be done by apartments, clusters, suites and then quads.
J. If a group does not select a suite or cluster through the Group Selection process, the individuals should go to Open Room Lottery/Selection and select a room individually.
K. Applications due dates/notification date: No exceptions to deadlines!
You can apply for a particular living space. If you are denied that space (because there are too many applications and you don’t have ‘the points’ <based on lottery numbers>, etc.), you can re-configure your group for a different size space. You can only move forward, though. Once the deadline passes for the 2 person apartment, we won’t accept any more applications, etc. Basically, you can apply for bigger spaces. You can only apply for one size space at a time!
