OPEN ROOM SELECTION

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

A. There will be spaces available in all buildings at Open Room Selection.

B. Every eligible student who pays the $500 room deposit by the deposit deadline will be assigned a random room lottery number.  The parameters of the lottery are class credits earned.

C. Lottery numbers will be posted by April 7th.

D. Room Selection times and location will be posted with the lottery numbers.  You should arrive at the location listed at the time that corresponds to your lottery number.  For purposes of crowd control, early arrivals will be turned away.

E. When you arrive at Open Room Selection, please bring your Suffolk ID, the signed signature page of your license agreement, a pen and your patience!  You will need to sign the License Agreement 2008-2009 at room selection.   It is important to note that the license agreement is binding and obligates you to university housing for a full academic year unless you are taking part in a study abroad program. If you do not take residency at the start of the fall 2008 semester, your room deposits will be forfeited.

F. Once you arrive at Open Room Selection, you will be given information and instructions.   The process for Open Room Selection:   1. Lottery numbers will be called, starting with the “best” number... that is #1.
2. When your number is called, you should report to the podium, with your roommate(s), to check-in.
3. You will then proceed, with your roommate(s) to the sign-up area for the floor on which you wish to live to pick your room.
4. Once you have selected you room, you will submit your signed license agreement to the staff person and then your assignment will be finalized.
5. Please leave the room when you have completed the process so that we may keep Open Room Lottery/Selection moving along.

G. “Pulling In” a roommate: Students who choose a multi-occupancy room (anything but a single) during Open Room Selection may “pull in” a roommate or roommates who have a worse lottery number, provided the roommate meets the room selection eligibility criteria.  For example, if a student wants to live in a quad with three other students, the first student, (who has the best lottery number) can “pull in” the three students (who have all paid their deposit, etc.) when his/her number is called.  You can not, however, pull in a student who is not eligible for housing...a commuter, an incoming student, etc.  No space can be ‘saved’ for such a student.  You can only ‘pull in’ a roommate or roommates to fill a bedroom.  You can’t ‘pull in’ 4 other people to fill a 5 person suite.  You can pull in another person to live in a double with you only.

H. Available apartments, suite, cluster and quad rooms not taken during Group Selection will be made available during Open Room Selection.  There will be no group selection option (except for quads) at Open Room Selection.  You may select one bedroom only.
