Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Giovanna Negretti is the executive director of ¿Oíste?, the first and only statewide Latino political organization in Massachusetts. ¿Oíste? mission is to promote the principles and practice of democracy and to advance the political, social and economic standing of Latinos. ¿Oíste? offers programs in leadership development, civic education, campaign training and advocacy and is currently planning its expansion to five states in the next three years.
Prior to ¿Oíste? Ms. Negretti served as legislative aide to Dianne Wilkerson. She later developed and implemented leadership training programs for Latino youth at the Mauricio Gastón Institute at the University of Massachusetts. In 2005, Ms. Negretti was contracted by Dominican Republic President Leonel Fernández on national leadership capacity building initiatives for the Dominican Republic across the corporate, NGO and government sectors. She recently served as Leadership Specialist consultant to Sapientis, a non-profit organization that develops leadership programs to stimulate change in the public education system of Puerto Rico.
Ms. Negretti was president of the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Congress for Puerto Rican Rights and is currently on the Executive Committee of the National Boricua Human Rights Network. Listed in Boston Magazine as one of the 100 Most Powerful Women in Boston (May 2003) and Top 40 People to Watch (2003), Giovanna is a fellow of the National Hispana Leadership Institute and has a BFA Magna Cum Laude from Emerson College and MPA from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, with a concentration in Leadership. Giovanna was recently selected a Prime Mover, a national program that supports leaders who engage masses of people to create a more just society.
