Safe Zone Training
Any member of the university community—faculty, staff and students—may participate in this program. After attending a brief training session, participants will choose whether or not they would like to display the Safe Zone emblem. This identifies the individual as a supportive person who can offer help, advice or just a willingness to listen to talk about issues of sexual orientation and gender identity. During the safe zone workshop participants have the opportunity to:- Acknowledge frankly, if privately, any biases they may have
- Learn more about ways in which homophobia affects the Suffolk LGBT community
- Understand the role of LGBT allies and the need for them on our campus
- Be empowered to combat homophobia and related discrimination as participants encounter it
