Short Biography

Dr. Tryan L. McMickens serves as one of the core faculty in the Master of Education in Administration of Higher Education Program at Suffolk University. He has a diverse professional background including postsecondary administrative experiences in fundraising, alumni affairs, student affairs, and program management. He executed this work at a wide variety of educational organizations, including University of Pennsylvania, Harvard University, Thurgood Marshall College Fund, Suffolk University, and Tuskegee University.

 

Dr. McMickens received his educational doctorate in higher education from the University of Pennsylvania. He earned a master’s degree in administration of higher education from Suffolk University and received bachelor’s degrees in sales & marketing and business administration from Tuskegee University. Dr. McMickens’ research focuses broadly on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, undergraduate and graduate student experiences at Predominantly White Institutions, and fundraising at American colleges and universities. His dissertation, entitled, Racism Readiness as an Educational Outcome for Graduates of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs): A Multi-Campus Grounded Theory Study, explores the ways HBCUs prepare their students for the racial realities of college-to-career transitions with a particular emphasis on the workplace and graduate school environments. This research was funded by a generous grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Millennium Scholars Program.
