The Suffolk University Theatre Department provides students with rigorous, well-rounded training in theatre by integrating the study of theatre history, literature and craft with extensive opportunities for practical experience. Professors and theatre professionals help students to discover and articulate their creative vision within the context of an expansive liberal arts education.
Suffolk Theatre students develop creative, analytical, managerial and technical skills that are applicable in a wide range of professional activities. Complementary practical opportunities in the performing arts are available through Theatre Department Productions, the Boston Music Theatre Project (BMTP), the National Theatre of Allston and through enrichment programs with professional performing arts groups. The Department strongly encourages students to take advantage of the many study abroad opportunities offered by the University, and works closely with International Programs in developing and delivering performing arts programs abroad. The success of our “Flamenco in Madrid” program has encouraged us to explore creating additional programs in Italy and Japan.
The Theatre Department offers two undergraduate majors and minors in Theatre and Performing and Visual Arts and two degree options, the B.A. or B.S. Both of these majors are designed to provide students with maximum flexibility to pursue specialized expertise balanced within a liberal arts degree.
