Dr. Robert E. Rosenthal is Chair of the Department of Communication and Journalism at Suffolk University in Boston. It is the largest major on campus, encompassing more than 15% of the total undergraduate student population along with a sizable graduate program. An award-winning professor of Communication, “Dr. Bob” teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in the areas of popular culture, media, political communication, communication theory, and leadership. He also teaches courses in Leadership, Teambuilding and Communication in the Suffolk Executive MBA program.
In addition to his duties at the University, for the past 25 years Dr. Bob has been an international consultant specializing in strategic communication, with a core emphasis on institutions subject to government regulation. In this capacity he has worked with electric, gas and telephone utilities, financial institutions, communication firms and government agencies to develop strategic corporate communication solutions and individual communication competencies. His counsel has been sought by companies on cases ranging from multi-billion dollar natural gas pipelines and water projects to gas, electric, and telephone utility deregulation. He has been on the faculty of the Suffolk University Institute for Executive Education since its inception, working with corporate clients in the areas of Strategic Planning, Leadership Development, and Strategic Communication.
A specialist in the field of Political Communication, Dr. Bob has been a guest on television newscasts in Boston and in other markets, providing insight into Massachusetts and national politics, journalism, and media and culture. An avid skier, golfer and sports fan, he has developed innovative educational programs combining physical activities with Leadership Development.
Dr. Bob received his B.A. cum laude in Political Science and Communication from Boston College and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Communication from Bowling Green State University of Ohio.
