• Professional Development for Secondary and Middle School Teaching

Professional Development in Teaching Programs

As of the Spring semester of 2007, no new applicants will be accepted into the program.  The program is being phased out.  Only students accepted prior to start of the Spring semester of 2007 may continue coursework.

The program is designed for those professionals who hold a Master’s Degree related to the subject area they teach and have obtained initial licensure to teach in Massachusetts.  Candidates who hold a master’s degree in a related content area but do not have the required pedagogy background should enter our Post- Bachelor’s program to receive initial licensure prior to enrolling in this program.  This program fulfills the academic requirements for professional licensure.  Upon completion of the prescribed program, Suffolk University will sponsor the candidate for Professional Licensure.

Please note: other requirements for the Professional License include: 1) completion of a one-year induction program with a mentor, and 2) at least three full years of employment in the role of the license (i.e. as a Biology Teacher in grades 8 – 12), and at least 50 hours of a mentored experience beyond the induction year.
