Welcome!
The Suffolk University curriculum is designed to offer students choice and encourage intellectual exploration. The Seminar for Freshmen – required for all incoming first-year College of Arts & Sciences students – is a cornerstone of our curriculum.
The mission of the seminar program is to introduce first-year students to the challenges of college-level work; to assist students as they transition from high school to the University; and to prepare students for continued academic success.
Each of the four-credit seminars described on this Web site is taught by a full-time member of Suffolk’s distinguished faculty. Your professor will be your first-year advisor – your link to the intellectual life of the College of Arts & Sciences and your guide to your first semester. Seminar instructors are dedicated to creative teaching and strive to provide meaningful learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom.
These courses reflect our professors’ interests; we hope they interest you too. This is your opportunity to engage in critical thinking – an essential skill for undergraduate studies – on a topic that need not relate to your intended major or career path. All seminars allow you to connect with your classmates, your professor, and the greater Suffolk community.
Please read through this Web site before registering for your preferred seminar online at www.suffolk.edu/sf. You should do this at your earliest opportunity, certainly before your orientation session. Because each course is limited to 20 students, your first choice may not be available. It is our hope that every incoming student will find many seminar topics of interest. Please refer to this Web site if you have questions about the program or a specific seminar.
As you begin your college experience, we hope course offerings such as these spark your imagination and intelligence.
With best wishes for a rewarding first year at Suffolk and an enriching seminar experience,
Nina Huntemann
