The Bachelor of Science in Engineering, with a concentration in Electrical Engineering, is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET Inc.,111 Market Pl., Suite 1050 Baltimore, MD 21202, one of the most respected accreditation organizations in the United States. ABET accreditation is a significant achievement and attests to the quality of our program.
The Electrical and Computer Engineering department prides itself on providing its students with hands-on and real world experience in analyzing, designing and building electrical systems. Not only do electrical engineering majors learn inside the classroom and the laboratories, but they have many opportunities outside their coursework as well. For instance, students can participate in TaSI (Technology and Science Initiative), which brings organized research to undergraduates. TaSI projects currently underway include a solar powered office, interdisciplinary research with the Biology Department on the thermal environment of mussels in the tidal region, and sensing systems for robotic awareness.
Also, each year Electrical Engineering majors participate in the regional IEEE Micro-Mouse competition, which involves designing a robotic mouse to travel through a maze in the shortest amount of time. Our team usually places in the top three positions, often beating out teams from much bigger schools. Our department has been noted by both our current students and our alumni for our outstanding faculty and the attention that the students receive from them.
Students with Electrical Engineering degree are in particular demand in the field of Patent Law, a specialty which is offered at Suffolk Law School. Law firms will often pay for an EE graduate to study law in the evening while he or she works for the firm during the day.
