A commitment to diversity is a promise to be a good neighbor, friend, educator and researcher. My personal and professional experiences are continually enriched by understanding the social institutions and dynamics that work to promote (or hinder) the well-being of individuals and families of various cultural backgrounds. As an educator, I approach developmental psychology in the classroom using both etic and emic perspectives. In my research, I use mixed-methodological approaches also combining these “within” and “across” cultural perspectives to deepen our understanding of psychological science, and to promote a more contextualized social understanding of human development.
