
Frances Moore Lappé, an award-winning social and environmental activist and author, visited the College of Arts & Sciences during the week of October 15– 19, 2007. Lappé presented two public lectures: “From Hunger to Democracy: The Future of Life—My Journey,” as part of the Lowell Lecture series; and “Getting a Grip: Finding Our Place in the Walk of Hope.” She also presented “Living Courageously in a Culture of Fear,” with Distinguished Scholar in Residence James Carroll.
Lappé’s recent works include Getting a Grip: Clarity, Creativity, and Courage in a World Gone Mad (2007); You Have the Power: Choosing Courage in a Culture of Fear (2005); and Democracy’s Edge: Choosing to Save Our Country by Bringing Democracy to Life (2005).
