In January 2008 and 2009, Professor Rodriguez's HST 508 class took a trip to El Salvador to learn about that country's civil war, and the role of Congressman Joe Moakley in resolving it.

Professor Rodriguez and five students attended the USS CONSTITUTION Museum's Chairman's Dinner in October 2008, where they heard from Chief of Naval Operations Gary Roughhead and Mayor Thomas Menino, and had the opportunity to talk with sailors and marines from the world's oldest commissioned warship.
