Environmental Engineering Service Learning Projects

 

“Green My House” Spring 2007

A multi-disciplinary team of Suffolk students developed a half-day program to introduce seventh and eighth graders to the ideas of green materials and green buildings. The project involved building at scaled model of a green home using green building materials donated by various manufacturers. A companion notebook Green My House was developed for the program. Suffolk environmental engineering, science, and design students team-taught the half-day program and directed the program activities. The project was funded by the Suffolk University Service Learning Seed Grant Program.  Participating Suffolk Faculty: Pat Hogan (Project Advisor), Rachael Kipp, Angela Buffone.

“It’s Easy Being Green” Spring 2006

A one-hour pre-program introduction and a half-day program to introduce sixth and seventh graders to the ideas of sustainability, green chemistry, and green engineering was developed by a multi-disciplinary team of Suffolk environmental engineering and science students. A companion book It Is Easy Being Green and work book was developed for the program. The project was funded through a grant from the Interface Corporation via the National Research Council. Sixth and seventh graders were invited to Suffolk for the program. Suffolk environmental engineering and science students team-taught the half-day program and directed the program activities.
