As the Program Director for the Medical Science Program at Suffolk she successfully obtained JRCERT accreditation for the University’s radiation therapy program. Past Recipients

Mark Mackin, BS RT(T)

Mark Mackin graduated from Suffolk University in 2008 with honors. He is a survivor of Hodgkin's lymphoma and is currently working as a Radiation Therapist at Brigham and Women's hospital. He is the first recipient of the Angela Lombardo Memorial Award.

In 2007, Mark ran with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training program. He ran the Seacoast Half Marathon in 2008, and the Walt Disney World Marathon in 2009. From these two marathons he raised about $5500 for blood cancer research. Mark was also a founding member of Suffolk's Up 'til Dawn program, an event that raises money for St. Jude's Children Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. Mark, with the help from his fellow students, raised over $10,000 in two years.

Mark was frequently on the Dean's Honor List during his four years at Suffolk University.

Ryan Connolly, BS RT(T)

Ryan Connolly graduated from Suffolk University with a Bachelor's degree in non-clinical radiation biology in 2007.  He returned to Suffolk and completed a post baccalaureate certificate in radiation therapy in 2009.

During his undergraduate program at Suffolk, Ryan was was heavily involved with the Performing Arts Office and Suffolk University's only a Cappella group. In addition, Ryan created the web page for the First Annual Angela Lombardo Symposium in 2009 and often served as photographer at program events.

Currently, Ryan is employed as a Staff Therapist at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Francesca Sidoti, BS RT(T)

Francesca Sidoti was the recipient of the Lombardo Award in 2010. A clear leader amongst her senior class, she continued to share her kindness and enthusiasm after graduation by interning for “Ovations for the Cure of Ovarian Cancer,” a non-profit organization located in Natick, MA. This organization was formed to increase awareness of ovarian cancer, and provide funding for new research, as well as educational programs for patients and their families. During her short time with Ovations, Francesca has participated in various events, such as the “Cure Her in Couture” Fashion Events and patient education programs like the Learning for Living Symposium.

Francesca is currently employed full time with Massachusetts General Hospitals’ Radiation Oncology Department.

Jilan Alturkistani, BS

Jilan Alturkistani first came to Suffolk with a plan to study nutrition, until she stumbled upon the Radiation Therapy program and after further inquiry, she decided it would be a perfect fit for her! After her shadowing experience and interview to become accepted into the program, Jilan immersed herself in a full-time volunteer position at a Radiation Oncology Department in her home country of Saudi Arabia, over her summer break. During this time, she arranged with the Department Head at the “King Faisal Specialist Hospital” in Jeddah City, to return to work for their department with a further, loftier goal of beginning their own Radiation Therapy Program. In preparation for this, Jilan graduated from Suffolk, class of 2011, with a Double Major in Radiation Biology and Business Management.

“I am very excited to start the next chapter of my life and always be grateful that Suffolk University, and in particular Program Director, Gina Passmore and Clinical Director, Jessica Clarke, for providing a solid foundation from which I will soon build upon.”

Kinsale, Boston

On May 17, 2013, Suffolk University hosted the 5th annual Angela Lombardo Memorial Scholarship, fundraiser event. Our goal is to have a scholarship endowed in Angela’s name to honor her legacy: the contributions she made to the radiation therapy profession, especially in the educational domain; and to the work of her students who are now practicing radiation therapists. The scholarship is granted to one of Suffolk University's radiation therapy students and applied toward their final year’s tuition. A silent auction was hosted by the Suffolk University physics department and attended by the Radiation Oncology staff of many prominent hospitals in the Boston area, such as Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
