Thirty-two Suffolk University Dakar student volunteers dedicated their Saturday, on the last weekend before finals, to the success of KIDS 4 KIDS Day, an event sponsored by the Dakar Women’s Group.
Suffolk students engaged in face painting, arts and crafts, and supervised over a dozen children’s games including: Pin the Tail on the Zebra, Go Fish, Octopus Ring Toss and many others. Volunteers also helped with pony rides, horse and cart rides, and goal keeping.
According to Sarah Anglade, DWG KIDS 4 KIDS organizer, “They really did make the difference this year and were a very helpful, willing and pleasant bunch of people to have around. Everyone commented on how good they were with the kids..” Everyone was so impressed with the face-painting team, that the organizers for the World Food Program’s May 21 Walk the World March requested that our student volunteers host a face painting booth at the start of the event.
The day’s proceeds, estimated to be a little over one million CFA, will be donated to various non-profit organizations in and around the Dakar area. Past recipients of DWG charity funds have included an orphanage in Medina and a school for disabled children in Ouakam.
