Women’s Studies in Spain: Women, History and Culture WGS 111 - 4 credits

The course will examine the distinctive features of women’s roles and positions within the broader framework of Spanish society, in the past and in the present. We will observe the cultural constructions of gender differences as they appear in art, literature, film, the media and popular culture. Both sociological tools, such as opinion surveys and time-use surveys, and anthropological resources, such as ethnographic accounts of behavior and roles, will inform our inquiry into the multiple aspects of our subject.
