Overview

This on-site departmental library houses a focused collection of material for the study of interior design, graphic design, and fine arts. As of June 2006, the collection includes over 9500 books, 50 periodical subscriptions, 180 CD-ROM titles, over 200 DVD’s and videotapes, and 20,000 slides on the history of art and design, photography, architecture and furniture. Students also have access to online resources such as Art Full Text, Grove Art Online, the Design and Applied Arts Index and many other journal databases and e-books available 24/7 through the Sawyer Library.
 
The library provides excellent coverage of art & design history, techniques and professional practice.  Since the inception of the Master of Arts in Interior Design, all graduate theses are also available for review.

Equipment

Computers

The library has seven public computer workstations and three printers.  The computers located in the study area are used for Internet research and searching the web-based magazine databases.  There is also a workstation devoted to the online catalog.  The Materials Library has a workstation, scanner and printer.

Photocopier & Audio-Visual

A photocopier is available for student use. The library also functions as the AV center for the department lending out a variety of digital cameras, camcorders, LCD projectors and other equipment.

Fenway Library Consortium

The University belongs to a cooperative of area libraries. Member libraries include Simmons, Emerson, Lesley, Emmanuel, Mass Art, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Wheelock, Wentworth and UMASS/Boston. Suffolk students may use these collections and check out circulating books from most of them with their Suffolk University IDs. Materials Library

A dedicated Materials Library, modeled after those found in interior design and architectural firms, offers a comprehensive collection of fabric samples, wall and floor coverings, plastic laminates, wood and glass products, hardware, and paints.
