KaBloom Flowers, a Cut Above the Rest5/8/2012
Out of four randomly selected flower companies, KaBloom was New England Cable News’ (NECN) top pick for Mother’s Day bouquets. KaBloom, founded by Sawyer Business School Executive in Residence David Hartstein, delivered the most affordable, freshest, and longest-lasting roses.
For NECN’s “Does it Work?” segment, Anchor and Feature Reporter Leslie Gaydos ordered a dozen Pandora pink roses from KaBloom ($64.05), long-stem pink roses from FTD.COM ($90.98), rose elegance premium long-stem roses from 1-800 FLOWERS ($74.98), and long-stem pink roses from Pro Flowers ($66.15).
All of the flowers arrived on time and in good to excellent condition. They were kept out of direct sunlight in an undisturbed office for one week.
After several days, there were “noticeable changes” in all of the flowers except for the KaBloom roses. The KaBloom bouquet “still looked like freshly cut backyard roses with all of the flowers open and smelling good,” Gaydos said. The flowers from the other companies were already starting to wilt and turn brown.
After a full week, “it was the KaBloom bouquet that came out smelling like a rose,” Gaydos said. “It was the least expensive and did indeed last seven days. All 12 of the roses in the KaBloom bouquet still looked pretty and fresh a week later.”
KaBloom keeps their flowers fresher than the competition thanks to their patented “Moses Miracle,” a water-filled balloon that covers the flower stems during transit. The balloon also allows for speedy and inexpensive delivery.
KaBloom is just one of many successful ventures launched by Suffolk students, alumni, and faculty. Last month, BostInno published an article highlighting Suffolk’s Entrepreneurship Programs, which have helped students and alumni develop nearly 30 companies over the last eight years.
