Three Required Courses Replaced
On February 4, 2010, the faculty of the Sawyer Business School approved major changes in the Master of Health Administration (MHA) curriculum. Effective with the Fall 2010 semester, three new required courses will replace three currently required courses, for all MHA students.
The new required courses are these:
- HLTH 908 - Organizational Behavior in Healthcare provides a framework for understanding, diagnosing, and acting to improve individual, group, and system-wide effectiveness in health services organizations. This course is now a 3-credit elective.
- HLTH 912 - Applied Research Methods for Healthcare Management covers both qualitative and quantitative research methods, with a strong focus on applied healthcare management research. Topics include scientific reasoning, research design, action research methods, fundamental statistical techniques, and display and presentation of quantitative and qualitative analyses.
- HLTH 916 - Healthcare Human Resources Management introduces the theories, requirements, and practices associated with managing human resources in healthcare organizations. It covers strategic and operational aspects of human resources planning and management, with particular attention to what makes them so challenging in healthcare. Perhaps most important, the course guides students in developing practical knowledge and skills to prepare them to successfully address human resource issues.
The courses that will be replaced are PAD 712 Policy Analysis and Program Evaluation, PAD 715 Quantitative Analysis, and PAD 716 Public Service Human Resource Management.
The MHA Program will remain a 49-credit program, except for students with no experience in the U.S. healthcare system who are required to complete a 3-credit internship. For them, the MHA Program remains a 52-credit program.
