Suffolk University's chapter of Best Buddies was recognized at the the Best Buddies Leadership Conference at Indiana University in Bloomington thus summer.
Best Buddies volunteers enhance the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by providing one-to-one friendships and opportunities for integrated employment.
Outstanding chapter nomination
Suffolk University's chapter of Best Buddies was nominated as an Outstanding Chapter for the 2006-2007 school year at the conference, which drew more than 1,300 students from around the world.
The nomination recognized the quality of the Suffolk University chapter’s one-to-one friendships, effectiveness of group outings, chapter involvement, community awareness, and chapter communication.
Suffolk's Best Buddies chapter matches students with buddies in neighboring Malden, Watertown, and Waltham. The students spend one-to-one time with their buddies and also participate in group events.
There are 30 suffolk students and about 30 buddies in the chapter, according to Suffolk University Chapter President Melissa Demir.
The group looks forward to its first event of the 2007-2008 academic year, a Friendship Party from 1-3 p.m. September 29 in the Ridgeway Gym.
