How to Recycle at Suffolk

Paper goes in blue bins

This includes:

  • Mixed Office Paper (including various colors, as well as staples and paperclips)
  • Newspapers
  • Magazines
  • Mail (including windowed envelopes)

Cardboard

Corrogated cardboard boxes (the ones made of thick brown material) should be flattened and set next to blue bins

Glass, metal, and plastic items go in the gray containers with green lids

This includes:

  • EMPTY Metal Cans
  • EMPTY Glass Bottles (all colors)
  • EMPTY Plastic Containers

Please note: Plastic plates, cups, and bowls may be recycled as long as they are free of food debris and liquid.  Example: black #6 plastic used at many events at Suffolk.

  • Bang off the plate over the trash can to get rid of any excess food

and

  • Place the plate in the recycling receptacle with the green lid.

Inkjet Cartridges

It’s simple!  Pick up a pre-addressed, pre-paid envelope at the Campus Mail Services location which services your area.  Use the envelope to mail in your used inkjet cartridges for recycling.

Laser Cartridges

For laser cartridges, check with your laser cartridge provider. If the company does not accept returns, bring cartridges to the Campus Mail Services location which services your area. Campus Mail Services will send them to be recycled.  As usual, if you have any questions, please contact the Recycling Coordinator at recycle@suffolk.edu.

Toner Cartridges

There is no need to throw away empty toner cartridges from your printer, copier, or fax machine.  If the box it came in does not provide for recycling arrangements, just contact Suffolk’s Recycling Coordinator to have your used cartridge picked up.

Other Types of Materials

We can divert the following items from landfills:

  • light bulbs
  • batteries
  • electronics (cell phones, monitors, computers, overhead projectors)
  • furniture
  • art and school supplies
  • fabric
  • books

If there are items you are no longer using but think someone else might be able to, Suffolk will look into finding a home for the items - either in a Suffolk department or a non-profit organization.  When items are no longer usable, Suffolk will have the items recycled.  If you have items that require pick-up, please contact the Recycling Coordinator at recycle@suffolk.edu.
