Binge eating, anorexia, and bulimia are eating disorders that affect millions of women and men in the United States. Approximately, ninety percent of people who suffer from an eating disorder are women between the ages of 12-25. Someone who has an eating disorder is at risk for a variety of medical complications, such as heart failure, anemia, brain damage, peptic ulcers, fatigue, and joint pain. Eating disorders are normally long-term illnesses that require extensive treatment (National Mental Health Information Center, 2003).
