If you have decided to take time off, you will need to request an official Leave of Absence. A Leave of Absence may be granted for up to one year to students in good academic standing. Contact the Dean of Students Office at (617) 573-8239.
Consider the advantages of taking an official leave of absence instead of disappearing:
An official leave of absence allows you to re-enter the University without having to re-apply for admission.
You can register for classes by mail for the semester in which you plan to return.
The Registrar’s Office will mail registration materials directly to you.
A leave of absence allows you to continue taking the course requirements in effect at the time of your admission, rather than subject to curriculum changes that may have taken place while you were on leave.
There may also be financial implications to leaving the University without proper notification. The fact that you do not attend classes does not mean that your registration is dropped, that your tuition obligations are erased or that your level of financial aid will remain unchanged.
Completing a Leave of Absence form in a timely manner is the best way to find out exactly what the academic and financial implications of your leave will be.
The University Counseling Center offers free, confidential, individual counseling. Call (617) 573-8226.
If you have decided to leave the University permanently, we wish you every success. We ask that you contact the Dean of Students Office at (617) 573-8239 to complete an official Withdrawal Form and a brief exit interview. These allow you to address any issues about your academic or financial status.
If you still have questions or concerns and don’t know where to go for answers, contact the Student Advisory Line (SAL) at: (617) 573-8798 or sal@suffolk.edu
We are here to listen to your concerns and assist you in resolving them.
